After two shootings on Wednesday night at a restaurant and bowling alley in Lewiston, Maine, authorities report that at least 22 people are dead and scores more are injured. A person of interest in the shootings is the target of a vigorous manhunt, according to authorities.
Commissioner of Public Safety for Maine Mike Sauschuck stated that Robert Card, 40, of Bowdoin, is a person of interest and need to be regarded as armed and dangerous.
Card possesses a firearms instructor certification and is a member of the US Army Reserve, according to law enforcement officials in Maine told CNN. The officials stated that Card had lately reported mental health difficulties, including hearing voices, and had threatened to carry out a shooting at a National Guard base in Saco, Maine.
At least 22 people were killed, Lewiston City Councilor Robert McCarthy told CNN, citing a city administrator.
Around 7 p.m. ET, according to Sauschuck, the shootings took place. At Mollison Way's Sparetime Recreation, a bowling alley, and Lincoln Street's Schemengees Bar & Grille Restaurant, active gunfire situations were reported by Lewiston police.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday night, the Androscoggin County Sheriff's Office stated, "We are encouraging all businesses to lock down and/or close while we investigate."
