Israel-Hamas battle real-time updates: The death toll in Gaza has reportedly surpassed 5,000; Foreign ministers of the EU meet in Luxembourg.
Over 5,000 Palestinians have died, according to health authorities in Gaza, since the conflict between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas began on October 7. Authorities reported that there had been more than 15,000 injuries.
Since beginning its attack on Israel more than two weeks ago, the Palestinian militant group Hamas has killed at least 1,400 people and taken more than 200 hostages.
These figures could not be independently verified by CNBC.
According to Jonathan Conricus, a spokesman for the Israel Defense Forces, a complete Hamas surrender and the release of Israeli hostages might put an end to Israel's conflict in the Gaza Strip.

"The goal here is to completely strip Hamas of its military prowess. It would be ideal if that could be accomplished from the air, using standoff techniques, with the least possible exposure to our forces and the least amount of harm to the ground, he continued.
Josep Borrell, the top diplomat for the European Union, demanded on Monday that the battle between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas be suspended to allow for the delivery of aid to the Gaza Strip.
